Multimedia Assessment: For this assessment, students in my eighth grade classroom will use this video that I created to have a pre learning assignment for the chapter that we cover on World War II. It will preview the chapter for them and guide them along with questions so that as we go through the chapter, they will be able to identify key people, battles, and members during World War II. The video is fun and enjoyable and very easy to comprehend for my students. This will help because there is a lot of information in this chapter. The questions provided to them throughout the video will guide them along and provide them with the background information needed. Students will complete this assessment at home and will allow them to come in prepared for the chapter on World War II.

Rubric: The rubric that I created is for my eighth grade classroom as well for the project based learning assignment on the evolution of the assembly line. Students will receive this rubric before we begin the project because that will create less confusion when they are going through and making sure that they have all the necessary components. Content, the slides they create spelling, grammar, and punctuation, transitions between slides and design and creativity are all things they will be graded on. I have provided the rubric below to show how each group will be graded and what the point totals will be for the amount of work they put in. Each group will be given a time period for the assembly line and answer the questions accordingly.

Poll and Survey: This survey will be used in my eighth grade classroom as well for our chapter on the Civil War. It will be taken at the end of the chapter to gauge how much information the students have grasped throughout the chapter. Students will be surveyed individually and that will show me what students need to study more or less for the test and also take the time to review certain parts of the chapter before they are tested on it.

Application: These three forms of assessment that I have created involve a number of principles that we have looked at in this class. In terms of the video that I used and the questions that go along with it, the pre-training principle is used. This video that they watch will give them the key concepts, battles, and important people that were involved in World War II so they are prepared when we dive into the chapter. With the rubric, the principle that came to mind was coherence principle and the reason why is because they will be given this rubric before they start the project so they know exactly what they will be graded on. The rubric is very informative and at the same time easy to comprehend for students. As far as the survey goes, I really did not see a principle that was associated with this because it is just words on a screen with no audio or images. However, they can access this from anywhere they choose for further practice on the chapter.

Reflection: I really enjoyed this assignment because at my school, we have a project based learning class but, I use project based learning in my classroom as well. The reason why? I want students to have to work together to accomplish a certain goal. Project based learning gets them away from using the textbook every day and allow them to expand their minds, especially with the use of technology in the classroom. PowerPoint is very easy to use. However, with this rubric, I want students to use PowerPoint to the fullest. Whether it is transitions, animations, images, etc. I want students to make it the best presentation possible because they are basically competing against other students with this presentation. Whoever puts in more work will receive the better grade. The rubric that I created is very easy to follow and I followed other rubrics online to guide myself. They would be given the rubric before they begin the project so they know exactly what they need to do to get the best grade possible. The technology that I used this week (Playposit) was very easy to use and I love that it has questions included in the video that students can use to make sure they are following the lesson. It keeps them alert and allows for us as teachers to not have to print out questions for them to follow. They can answer these questions at home before we begin the chapter which will go a long way when we are breaking down the chapter.

  1. Shawn,
I completely agree with your reasoning behind using PBL in the classroom. The rubric you created is easy to follow and your students will surely understand what the expectations are.
I wasn't able to watch your Playposit but I enjoyed the Youtube link you posted that the Playposit is based off of. It's been great reading over your ideas throughout this course!
